Hi Curtis,
I suggest trying the org. numbers and emails above in the article. I also think you should contact Arnie who knows everyone and anyone when it comes to non-profits and volunteering. He works with "mitzvah heroes" and you can contact him at soosim@netmedia.net.il

Best of luck!

Animals Caught in the Fire
Seems like animals are being sacrificed today in Israel more than every before. Those that are in laboratories being induced with heart attacks, radiated, burned, having their skulls drilled and being cut apart while conscious by men in white and those that live on the border with Israel's enemies, being blown apart by missiles and who are being traumatized by explosions, sirens, shootings and starvation and neglect by their owners who have fled, who physically and who emotionally. The owners simply can't cope.

So who is caring for the sheep, horses, cats, dogs, geese, pigeons, chickens and goats being tortured by thirst, starvation and bombardment of missiles in Sderot? Anyone? Someone? Anywhere?

NOBODY.

NOT A SOUL.

Carcasses adorn the farms where once vibrant life and its cycles once transpired. The smell of death reeks in the desert breeze, remnants of the corpses that once gave milk, transported and plowed the Land. Where once geese yakked about in gaggles of high pitched debate, now there is silence. Only the flapping metal door that closed the cages can be heard. Where once the din of sheep and horses neighing in the near distance comforted the people living in the area, because where there are animals living and thriving, there was hope for tomorrow whatever would come, and there would be eggs, milk and cheese, now only the soft bleating, crying of a sheep is recognizable among the constant traffic on the main road. And soon that bleating would stop too because no one can feed this animal and the sooner it's sold to the butcher the better. One less *thing* to worry about.

And this is the situation in Sderot. These are the true victims. Those that can't complain. Those that can't go to a shrink and talk it over. Those that absorb the grief and terror and trauma into every fibre of their being without a safe place to be on this Land called holy.

And with all the talk of *helping* Sderot and all the big promises of *restoring* Sderot, somehow the animals that feed, plough, serve and comfort the humans have been forgotten. And as this is being written they are slowly dying of thrist, hunger and neglect. And the world just continues to spin in ignorance and indifference. Just an animal. Just Israel. Just. It's just another day in paradise.

Our hearts are with the people of Sderot in these terribly trying and difficult times. May Hashem continue to watch over you and bring a true "peace" to the people of his land.

Great, helpful post! I am including in a blog carnival I am hosting this week--it will come out on Saturday night. A lot of people want to know what they can do to help, and you have put together a great selection of ideas. Thanks!!!!!

So true! Conda-poo-poo will never know the real story. Not just because, she only visits from time to time, but because she doesn't care enough to truly want to help. She, like everyone else, is interested in an award, something to add to the list of accomplishments!

If you were to only read AP and Reuters reports on this situation, you would think that Israel is the bad guy – killing poor, innocent civilians – when in fact Hamas is using donkey carts to transport bombs and now using ambulances to cross international borders with weapons. Can you imagine the propaganda if Israel were to shoot one of these ambulances even if it is being used as a weapon of war?

Perhaps Secretary Rice should be fully briefed before putting any pressure on Israel’s right to defend itself.
